Gastric Bypass Surgery
Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass — a permanent and effective path to weight reduction

What is Gastric Bypass?
In gastric bypass (Roux-en-Y), the stomach is reshaped into a small pouch of approximately 30 ml. At the same time, part of the small intestine is rerouted so that consumed food passes directly into the middle small intestine.
This method is particularly effective for patients with type-2 diabetes, very high BMI or severe gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD). The procedure positively influences both food intake and hormonal metabolism.
The average weight loss is 60–80% of excess body weight. The procedure is laparoscopic and takes approximately 2–3 hours. Hospital stay is 3–4 days.
Advantages of Gastric Bypass
- ✓ Permanent and significant weight loss
- ✓ High remission rate for type-2 diabetes
- ✓ Improvement of hypertension and sleep apnoea
- ✓ Effective for severe reflux disease
